Program 2101--Spirit of America Charles Osgood, Dawn Upshaw, and Boston Ballet (Encore) Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Orchestra present Spirit of America, a special tribute to great American artists hosted by Charles Osgood. Osgood welcomes soprano Dawn Upshaw who performs a rousing selection of favorite Rodgers and Hart songs, including "I Didn't Know What Time It Was" and "Little Girl Blue." Members of Boston Ballet dance the "Hoedown" from Aaron Copland's "Rodeo," choreographed by Agnes de Mille, as well as "The Man I Love" pas de deux from George Balanchine's "Who Cares?" set to music of George Gershwin. Osgood provides fascinating biographical snapshots of the evening's featured artists and composers along the way -- punctuated by videotaped visits to some of the historic landscapes that inspired tonight's music. In addition to his duties as host, Osgood also performs the Rodgers and Hart classic "Blue Moon" on piano. The evening concludes with a showstopping celebration of John Philip Sousa's "The Stars and Stripes Forever!"
