Program 2205 -- Arlo Guthrie and Gil Shaham For the final new program of the season on Monday, August 10 at 8pm ET (check
local listings), EVENING AT POPS features the pairing of violinist Gil Shaham
and legendary storyteller/songwriter Arlo Guthrie. First, Shaham joins the
Boston Pops Orchestra for a performance of Kabalevsky's Concerto for Violin and
Orchestra in C Major. Then Arlo Guthrie takes center stage to perform
selections from his thirty-year music career. Perhaps best known for writing
"Alice's Restaurant Massacre," a song that grew into an anti-establishment
anthem for an entire generation, Guthrie's EVENING AT POPS debut includes
original gospel numbers and a stirring rendition of the folk classic, "This
Land is Your Land," by his late father, Woody Guthrie. Gil Shaham returns to
join Guthrie in performing his original composition, "Arlo's Rag." Other
program highlights include the Boston Pops Orchestra's own principal
clarinetist Thomas Martin's rousing performance of Artie Shaw's "Clarinet
Concerto," and the Overture to Glinka's Russlan and Ludmilla.Concert Program
