Fall 2004 DVS® E-guide Update from
the Media Access Group at WGBH
MAG Awarded Three-Year Grant from Department of Education

The Media Access Group at WGBH was recently awarded a three-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education to make educational programming airing on PBS accessible to people who are blind, visually impaired, deaf or hard of hearing. The grant of $300,000 per year will provide video description on a variety of educational programs, including Masterpiece Theatre, The Victory Garden, and Scientific American Frontiers. These programs are fully accessible to the audiences we serve as they are captioned as well.

CBS and Fox Series Return with Description This Fall

This fall, a variety of prime-time series return to CBS and Fox with video description for viewers who are blind or visually impaired -- provided by the Media Access Group at WGBH. Funding for the description is provided by CBS and the Fox Broadcasting Company. Tune in to these popular described shows:

    New Film Releases Coming to Accessible Theaters Near You...

    As MoPix installations pop up across the country, more accessible theatrical films are being released than ever before! The following feature films are either now playing -- or are coming soon -- to a MoPix-equipped theater in your area. (Titles and release dates are subject to change).

  • Ray (Universal Pictures): starring Jamie Foxx, premiering October 29

  • The Incredibles (Walt Disney Pictures, Pixar Animation Studios Film): scheduled for November 5 release

  • The Polar Express (Warner Bros. Pictures): starring Tom Hanks, Peter Scolari and Michael Jeter, scheduled for November 10 release

  • Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (Universal Pictures): starring Renee Zellweger and Hugh Grant, scheduled for November 19 release

  • Meet the Fockers (Universal Pictures): the sequel to Meet the Parents starring Ben Stiller, Robert DeNiro, Blythe Danner, Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand, scheduled for December 24 release
