Interactive NOVA: Animal Pathfinders

An interactive videodisc package which featuring a wide range of fascinating animals, their varied habitats, and their myriad behavioral adaptations.

Animal Pathfinders is designed for middle/high school animal biology. It has 60 minutes of interactive video with extensive Macintosh computer software, plus a print teacher's guide. Animal Pathfinders includes a "field" study in which kids figure out how many generations of monarchs take part in their annual migration. There is a game about environmental issues affecting turtle life cycles called "Turtle Mystery" in which students play a private investigator trying to figure out why loggerheads are disappearing. There is also a simulation of bee communication called "You Be The Bee". The computer software allows the user to access videodisc segments, read illustrated information about the subject, use the games and activities, and create his or her own multimedia presentation.

Animal Pathfinders was developed by WGBH and Peace River Films in association with Apple Computer, Inc.

The Level III version requires a Macintosh computer. Also available in a Level I videodisc-only version, with bar codes for quick access and a Spanish translation soundtrack.
