| Faces of WGBH | ||||
Keeping WGBH 2 and 44 on the air used to involve shuffling videotapes. Today, our operation is primarily computer-based, with programs stored and played back from video servers. It takes a superior engineering staff to install and maintain this technology. That's where John comes in, supporting both the hardware and software platforms that deliver the award-winning programs for which WGBH is known. John's expertise and determination also have helped spearhead WGBH's transition to digital television. "WGBH has a challenging work environment. Expectations for technical quality in public broadcasting are of the highest standard. I need to remain current with a variety technologies and equipment, learn how to use and install them, and then train my co-workers. I'm also one of the first people to be called if anything breaks down. It's a fast-paced, collaborative effort, and I love it!" |
