Nurturing a Diverse Workforce
WGBH's goal is to create a workplace environment that leverages the potential and diversity of the entire staff, fostering programs and services that positively reflect and meet the needs of our audiences. Our objectives in this vision are to:
- Represent the diversity of our community and society at all levels throughout WGBH.
- Nurture an environment where employees are treated fairly and are free from discrimination, intolerance, and harassment.
- Provide employees equal access to opportunities for growth and advancement.
- Enhance and expand WGBH's ability to hire, retain, develop, and promote a diverse workforce.
- Promote, within WGBH and to the general public, the value of diversity.
Many different definitions exist for diversity and inclusion. Our definition:
- WGBH values and strives to reflect the many visible and invisible differences among individuals within WGBH, in our partnerships, and for we serve.
- We aspire to a culture of inclusion, where each individual has a voice, is listened to, and has the opportunity to thrive.
In conjunction with our Diversity Steering Committee, the following individuals work with employees to lead this effort to foster a diverse workforce at WGBH:

Henry Becton, WGBH President
Henry became WGBH President in 1984 after 14 years as a producer, program manager, and general manager. He leads WGBH's diversity initiatives.
"WGBH is a vibrant place, a place where both teamwork and individual initiative are encouraged and valued. This is one of the most successful educational telecommunication outlets in the country. We're building on a strong foundation of work in TV, radio, and interactive media as we expand our educational mission beyond broadcast to emerging platforms." |

Judith Vecchione, executive producer in WGBH National Productions
Judith works from within the national production ranks to lead WGBH's efforts to foster the next generation of talented professionals. Building on her work on such acclaimed productions as Eyes on The Prize (series senior producer) and Americas (executive producer), she's focusing on new staff for future award-winning projects and on helping WGBH remain public television's pre-eminent production house.
"In this business, jobs open up quickly, and they need to be filled quickly. WGBH must have a strong pool of potential staff members. I work to find talented and skilled professionals at production houses, colleges, and community organizations, so I can give my colleagues here the opportunity to work with the broadest range of the best people." |
