WGBH ANNUAL REPORT 2006 - 2007

Produced in Boston, shared with the world.

WGBH informs, inspires, and entertains millions of people every day throughout New England, across the country, and around the world—at home, at work, at play, in transit, in the classroom, in movie theaters . . . wherever media is accessible.

WGBH is one of the nation's top public television and public radio broadcasters; a leading producer of high-quality content for TV, radio, the Internet, and other media; a pioneer in access services for people with disabilities; and the source of educational multimedia used by millions of teachers and students every year.

WGBH's productions are seen far and wide. We're PBS's single largest producer for television and the Web, creating one-third of the national prime-time lineup—from Frontline to Masterpiece Theatre, Nova to American Experience, Antiques Roadshow, and more—plus a slate of educational children's series, from Arthur to Curious George to Fetch! with Ruff Ruffman. Our Web sites attract 11 million visitors every month to pbs.org. And WGBH is a major supplier of programs enjoyed by public radio listeners from coast to coast.

WGBH offers multiple public TV services: WGBH 2 and 44; our digital cable channels WGBH World and WGBH Create (the latter distributed to stations nationwide), 'GBH Kids, WGBH On Demand, and WGBH High Definition; and for Boston cable subscribers, Boston Kids & Family TV. Our sister station, WGBY 57 Springfield and its digital cable channels, serves western New England.

Our public radio services on air and online include WGBH 89.7 in Boston (heard on Nantucket on WNCK 89.5) and our all-classical, high-definition service, WGBH 89.7-HD2. Both are available online at wgbh.org/radio. WGBH also holds the licenses for The Cape and Islands NPR® Stations: WCAI 90.1 Martha's Vineyard, WNAN 91.1 Nantucket, and WZAI 94.3 Brewster. All are heard online at wgbh.org/cainan. Our Web site, wgbh.org, offers program information, in-depth content, and on-demand media and lectures.

Television, radio, Web sites, podcasts and vodcasts, DVDs, captioning and video descriptions, classroom teaching tools . . . as the media landscape continues to evolve, WGBH is staying ahead of the curve. Today there are more ways than ever to enjoy our educationally rich content when and where you choose. All our efforts rely on the generosity of the public we serve.
