October 6 - Conductor Charles Munch gives the downbeat, and the new station of the WGBH Educational Foundation is on the air at 89.7fm, with a live concert by the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

May 2 - Channel 2 debuts: Come and See invites children to sing along with Tony Saletan, and WGBH Radio fixture Louis Lyons reads the news.

Eleanor Roosevelt interviews world leaders on the monthly Prospects of Mankind, produced by WGBH and carried on a number of educational and commercial stations around the country.
