Full Description 0:59:59 Visual: Arthur Garrity (federal judge) speaks at English High School at the annual meeting of the Citywide Education Coalition (CWEC). Garrity is at the end of his involvement in the Boston school desegregation case. Garrity mentions the names of School Committee members John Nucci, Rita Walsh-Tomasini, Kevin McCluskey, John O'Bryant and Jean Sullivan-McKeigue. Garrity says that these five School Committee members have all served as presidents of the Boston School Committee; that they are each selfless, committed and dedicated to the schoolchildren of Boston. Garrity says that the federal court is able to withdraw from the schools because of the integrity of the members of the Boston School Committee. Garrity also commends the hard work of Ray Flynn (Mayor of Boston), Dr. Laval Wilson (Superintendent, Boston Public Schools) and the CWEC. Garrity thanks the audience and invites questions. Garrity sits down on stage next to Wilson and Sidney Smith (Headmaster, English High School). The audience applauds. |
