Callie Crossley reports that Banks' paintings resemble simple patterns of shapes and colors; that the patterns in Banks' paintings represent music.

V: Shots of paintings by Banks. Classical music accompanies the shots. Footage of Banks saying that she studied music seriously; that she wanted to express the "feeling of music" in her painting.

Crossley reports that Banks devised a mathematical formula based on a grid to use in her paintings.

V: Shots of paintings by Banks. Audio of Banks saying that she went through a minimalist phase; that she used a grid pattern in her paintings which resembled the staff used in written music.

Crossley reports that each painting by Banks is based on a piece of music.

Crossley reports that Banks reads the score before painting; that Banks does not listen to the music before painting. Crossley says that Banks does not want to be influenced by someone else's interpretation of the notes.

V: Footage of Banks saying that the paintings began as a note-for-note translation of the music. Banks says that the paintings are now a "sound-for-sound" translation because she does not differentiate between bass and treble notes.

Crossley notes that Banks has been painting in this manner for ten years; that she has been featured at the Lopoukhine Gallery since 1979.

Crossley reports that the colors chosen by Banks are subjective; that musicians can often hear the music when looking at her paintings.

Crossley reports that Banks started out with great classical composers.

Crossley reports that Banks has started working with spirituals as well.
