Program Description
Program explores the facts, fictions, and future of South Africa via interviews with academic and political figures Dr. Alfred Dube (of the South African Cultural Mission), Dr. Bernard Magubane (of the University of Connecticut), Dr. Aggrey Mbere (of Roxbury Community College), Teko Menong (Freedom Fighter and filmmaker), and Themba Vilakazi (member of the South African Congress). Program Includes BBC footage from the film Last Grave at Dimbaza (filmed illegally in South Africa). Specific issues include the history of South Africa, the conditions of Black workers and families under apartheid, the fusion between political and economic structures with apartheid, the strategic location of South Africa and its stores of coal and uranium, the role of foreign investors in South Africa, the African National Congress's freedom charter, and the hope for a democratic future.
